A drunk man staying at a Houston hotel was arrested Sunday morning after police found an arsenal of weapons inside his room ahead of a huge New Year’s Eve party planned for the location.
According to the Houston Chronicle, the man, whose identity has not been released, was staying at the Hyatt Regency Downtown in Houston, Texas, where his room reportedly overlooked an area where a major New Year’s Eve event was scheduled to take place.
Houston police officers found an AR-15, a shotgun, a handgun, and a collection of ammunition in the man’s hotel room, according to the Washington Examiner.
According to reports, hotel security called Houston police about 1:30 a.m. on Sunday because the man was heavily intoxicated at the hotel bar and became aggressive with staff members.
Police were initially only going to arrest the man for disorderly conduct, but they found the arsenal of weapons and ammunition after they took him to his room to collect his belongings.
The man’s Chevrolet Silverado was also reportedly inspected and towed by police after he was arrested.
The Hyatt hotel was hosting a New Year’s Eve party Sunday night that was set to feature live music and four floors of party areas with hundreds of people expected to attend, according to KPRC 2 Houston reporter Jacob Rascon.
Rascon tweeted Sunday morning a brief synopsis of how police encountered the man and found the cache of weapons and ammunition in his hotel room.
He also tweeted a screenshot of a link to the Hyatt Regency Houston event.

The Las Vegas gunman opened fire from his hotel window on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino, which overlooked the concert.
Given that police found a large stash of weapons in the Houston suspect’s hotel room and his room reportedly overlooked a big New Year’s Eve celebration, the possibilities are frightening.
While waiting for additional information to be released, we should all be very glad that the hotel notified police and that they were able to likely prevent an attack before it took place.
