The unfolding of the Biden FBI raid on former President Donald Trump’s family residence in Florida, Mar-a-Lago continues.
Early in September, U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon granted Trump’s request for a special master to supervise the assessment of all material obtained in the search and temporarily halted portions of the DOJ investigation until the appointment of the special master. She finally designated Judge Raymond Dearie as the special master to evaluate the contents and constitutionality of the raid on Trump’s private Florida home.
Judge Cannon denied the Department of Justice’s request to suspend the hearings and continue examining the papers apart from the special master.
During the operation, passports belonging to previous President Trump were confiscated. Trump promptly appealed publicly to the confiscation of his personal property, and the passports were restored in a few days.
Despite the fact that several objects were confiscated during the raid, certain documents need special attention.
Seized in the raid were papers that apparently are stamped “classified”.
The inference is that former President Trump possesses classified material at his house, and that he was in mistake to have the claimed materials.
The former president has asserted publicly on many occasions that he declassified the records himself before leaving the Oval Office and that they, along with other artifacts in the same area, were destined for his forthcoming presidential museum.
Former President Trump said that the Biden FBI had previously visited Mar-a-Lago and the area where the papers were held to inspect the arrangement of the boxes, and had merely requested that an additional lock be installed on the door.
Trump accepted the offer, and the lock was placed.
So there was no secret between Trump and the FBI about what was in the room and Trump was transparent and fully cooperated with the government agents.
In filings intended to clarify the subject, the status of the contested papers has not yet been established.
The Special Master draft plan stipulates a number of criteria, including that Trump’s team submit facts about Trump’s claim to possess “declassified” materials collected during the FBI’s raid of Mar-a-Lago.
